Description
Located only two kilometers from the beguiling Adriatic Sea, Villa Salento is a typical farmhouse situated in the countryside near the beautiful and historic town of Otranto. The home has been completely restored and is surrounded by almost five acres of land criss-crossed with dry stone walls, or \"muretti a secco\". The interior is furnished in an elegant yet comfortable Mediterranean-minimalist style, with a nice mix of ethnic and restored antique pieces. The floors are made with the local Lecce stone, \"pietra Leccese\". The restored exterior of the house reflects its natural surroundings and is enhanced by indigenous flora such as Mediterranean \"macchia\" shrub, lavender bushes, olive trees, and large meandering boulders. The landscaping also includes a large garden with a beautiful swimming pool (open May - October), a furnished pergola area with table and wooden benches, a stone barbecue constructed of ancient rocks, an outdoor furnished kitchen, a large shower room, and many fruit trees. During summertime, umbrellas and garden furniture, including sun beds, all contribute to providing the guest with a pleasant and relaxing vacation destination.
Villa Salento is comprised of two floors. The ground floor features a beautiful living room with comfortable sofas and TV, a dining room with dramatic vaulted ceiling, a very well-equipped kitchen with gas stove, oven, dishwasher and cooking utensils, two master bedrooms, each with a fireplace and a private bathroom (one of these bathrooms has a bath), and a third master bedroom with a fireplace, double sofa bed, and ensuite bathroom with shower. The kitchen leads into a small and well-kept garden surrounded by dry stone walls, furnished with garden furniture, a large wooden table and benches, a barbecue, and stone benches. From this garden there is a staircase to a terrace that gives access to a fourth bedroom with a private bathroom with shower.
From the living room, a charming staircase leads up to the first floor, where two more master bedrooms (one with fireplace) are located. A bathroom with a shower and a bath is shared by these two bedrooms, reached by a light corridor.

Not far from Villa Salento are the ruins of an ancient, pre-Roman settlement called \"Roca\". As a result of several excavations, archaeologists have been able learn about the civilization and the lifestyle of the ancient local inhabitants, called \"Messapi\", a civilization that inhabited Puglia a few thousand years ago. Roca also features a beautiful grotto on the sea known as \"Grotta della poesia\" (Grotto of Poetry); the prayers of seamen in ancient Greek and Latin are engraved on its walls. Sailors used to take refuge in the grotto during storms, and gave thanks to their gods for protecting them.
Otranto is 16 kilometers away. This beautiful town on the sea is famous for its kasbah-like, charming historic center, and for its Roman Cathedral with an eleventh-century mosaic floor (among the largest and most mysterious in the world) depicting the Tree of Life and the Zodiac. Only six kilometers from the Villa are the spectacular \"Alimini\" beaches, with crystal clear water and sand dunes in excess of 50 feet high! Boat tours to the coves and guided tours of the province’s most important monuments are available upon request. For cyclists, the countryside abounds with cycling trails that meander through olive groves and other indigenous, natural vegetation.
The nearest small town is Torre dell Orso where guests will find restaurants and supermarket. The bay has many beach clubs and is a popular summer destination. San Foca is also 4 km from the villa and also has wonderful beaches.
