This privately owned villa is classified as an historical monument by the Greek Archaeological authorities. It is situated on a hillside just 6 km from Rethymon in the historic village of Maroulas and boasts magnificent sea views. In addition, Villa Maroulas Getaway is just 3 km from some of the best beaches on the North Coast of the island.
Maroulas Getaway is a recently restored 540 m2 (5812 sqft) villa, with high ceilings and a very luminous glass wall. The villa can accommodate up to twelve people. Historically, the building has had various functions: At one point, part of the building used to be a Venetian farm house and during the Turkish occupation an olive press was added. It has now been completely renovated to create a unique holiday villa. It is ideally located for excursions, and also welcomes domestic pets. Private parking is available in front of the house.
The villa is composed of two wings. The first wing of the villa is a two-storey building that was once part of a larger farmhouse. It has all the architectural characteristics of the Venetian era. The second wing of the villa is a one-storey building that used to be an olive press, originally constructed during the period of Turkish rule. The recent renovation of the building has shown great respect for the original character of the building, but has also incorporated all modern facilities one would expect to find in an exclusive \"home away from home\". The two wings of the villa connect via a modern, covered walkway designed by the internationally renowned architect Yiannis Kalitsounas – who has created a fusion of light, glass and space, bringing different times and cultures together.
Your host provides you with a welcome that befits guests in one of the more exclusive hotels in the world. He is also happy to be your personal guide, helping you to make the most of discovering the wonderful island that is Crete. He will be delighted to give you suggestions for excursions, to tell you about good local restaurants, and to point you in the direction of the local nightlife. The villa has personal insurance and provides services of a qualified staff.
ENTRANCE: The front door opens onto an inner courtyard. High walls offer peace and privacy, yet you are still in the heart of the village. There is a heated swimming pool, surrounded by potted plants, flowers, and elegant garden furniture. This is the place to sunbathe, unwind and relax, or bask in the shade of an olive tree. LIVING AREA: A conservatory style entrance leads into the main living area. The design is open-plan; there is a spacious lounge with a stunning white marble floor, a kitchen and dining area, a vaulted entertainment/TV room, and hi-tech office space (PC, Wi-Fi, giant screen, overhead projector, telephone, CD & DVD player, video recorder). The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, ice cube maker, Nespresso machine, wine cellar, oven and stove. The dining area is spacious and there is also a children’s play space. The 110sqm (1184 sqft) open space opens directly on the courtyard with the private heated swimming pool. The living area leads out to a small inner courtyard that houses a Jacuzzi (hot spring spas model Grandee). Your additional fifth bedroom is also located in this part of the building.
BEDROOMS: The villa has five bedrooms, all with air conditioning for the summer - and central heating for the winter. The owner provides you with all bed linen and hand towels, and also provides a daily (aside from Sundays) fully comprehensive domestic cleaning service at your convenience.
Bedroom 1: (ground floor) has an independent entrance. The room has a king bed, and an ensuite bathroom with bath, toilet and hair dryer.
Bedroom 2 : (first floor) has a great view of the sea. It also has a queen bed, and ensuite bathroom with a bath, toilet.
Bedroom 3: (first floor) has a small double bed and shares a bathroom with Bedroom 4.
Bedroom 4: (first floor) has 2 single beds and a double bed separated by a fixed wardrobe (quadruple). This bedroom shares a bathroom with bedroom 3 – the bathroom has a bath, a toilet and a hair dryer.
Bedroom 5: (ground floor) has a king bed and a separate shower & toilet in the corridor.
OUTSIDE AREAS: There is plenty of outdoor space within the grounds of the villa. There is the large courtyard with the heated swimming pool and the smaller ‘Jacuzzi’ courtyard. Additionally, there is a massive roof terrace of 140sqm (1506 sqft) on the first floor of the building, which has lounge chairs, tables, sofa and gazebo. From here you have a superb view of the village, the sea and the surrounding countryside.

The village of Maroulas has been classified as a ‘heritage’ site as most of the buildings date back to at least the Venetian era.
It is, however, a living, viable community as well. The village has three taverns, a cheese factory, and an herb shop, all within walking distance. Guests can also easily find plenty of meal options and a bus connection to Rethymon twice daily. For visitors arriving by plane, the village is conveniently situated: Heraklion (HER) airport is just 80km away, and Chania (CHQ) airport is even closer, at just 65km.
