Area description:
Just off the Panthéon and place de la Contrescarpe, this beautiful mansion is located in the very heart of the 5th arrondissement, commonly named « the Latin quarter » between the 2 famous Parisian gardens, Jardin du Luxembourg with the Médicis Palace (now our Senate) and Jardin des Plantes. In less than 2 minutes you will find the Place de la Contrescarpe, one of the most pittoreque squares in Paris, as well as the Rue Mouffetard, one of the oldest Parisian streets dating back to Middle Age, with plenty of restaurants, local markets, wine and cheese stores as well as excellent bakeries.
15 minutes from there, after passing by the Luxembourg Gardens, you reach Saint-Germain-des-Prés area with its famous cafés, Les Deux Magots and Le Flore. By the 18th century, intellectuals had a great attachment to this unique neighborhood where the Encyclopaedia was written, and the revolution started at the Procope restaurant. Simone de Beauvoir, Sartre and many other great French authors drew their inspiration from this charming area. The intellectual, literary and artistic life was bubbling in Saint-Germain-des-Prés which has since preserved the literary and cultural soul acquired in the last two centuries as well as the beautiful 17th century architecture. The neighborhood is now popular for its luxury boutiques, gourmet cafes and trendy restaurants and hotels.
